Somewhere In Between
Somewhere in between guru and a guy with a camera.
Somewhere in between peace and pandemonium.
Somewhere in between love and leaving.
Somewhere in between shaman and sham.
Somewhere in between kindness and killdozer.
I walk.
I walk through the 254 shades of gray between Black and White — a small nod to Ansel Adams, and maybe to Lonesome Bob too. Both of them understood something I’m still learning: that truth doesn’t live in the extremes, but somewhere in the soft middle ground.
That’s where I tend to end up — standing in the space between stories and stillness, between making sense and letting go.
Photography, for me, isn’t just about Light. It’s about that flicker between what is and what might be — the second before something changes, the pause that makes a moment real.
I’m not all black and white, and I don’t think the world is either.
Maybe that’s why I keep walking.
Somewhere in between.
That tobacco load photo at the top — I made that on August 24, 2019, a week before I moved back home to Southside. Tobacco had been in my rear view for almost twenty years — and suddenly I was following it again. I guess even then, I was already in-between one life and the next.
Maybe that’s where this blog begins too — in that gray space where songs meet silence, where memory meets motion. Those fractions of seconds…those pauses.
This is Batte Shoot Crazy.
And this is where the story starts.
